The Artemis II astronauts dedicate a lunar crater in memory of the commander’s wife.

During the Artemis II mission, over 400,000 kilometers from Earth, the astronauts had an emotional moment when they requested the dedication of a lunar crater in honor of Carroll, the late wife of the mission commander, Reid Wiseman. Jeremy Hansen, a crew member, announced with a trembling voice that the geological formation is located at the boundary between the visible and hidden faces of the Moon, being visible from certain angles on Earth.

Reid Wiseman, visibly emotional, burst into tears, alongside his colleagues who embraced him. Carroll Taylor Wiseman passed away from cancer in 2020, and Reid is raising their two daughters, Katie and Ellie, alone. This symbolic gesture paid an emotional tribute to a loved one, during a historic mission.
