A major solar eruption of class X4.2 disrupted radio communications in western Africa and southern Europe on Wednesday, temporarily affecting high-frequency signals, after the radiations ionized the upper layer of the Earth's atmosphere.

The phenomenon was generated by the active region AR4366, which has been extremely unstable and has produced strong solar eruptions in recent days. Although the eruption was of maximum intensity, it was not accompanied by coronal mass ejections (CME), according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Specialists warn that a minor geomagnetic storm, at G1 level, could occur as a result of this eruption.
