This request is part of a broader initiative by AI companies to obtain higher quality training data to help models tackle more complex tasks. OpenAI, in collaboration with the training data firm Handshake AI, has encouraged contractors to describe the tasks performed and to submit concrete works, such as Word documents, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, Excel files, images, or even code. To mitigate risks, OpenAI asks contractors to remove proprietary content and personal information before uploading files. They must also use a ChatGPT-based tool called "Superstar Scrubbing" to clean sensitive data. However, this approach raises legal and ethical issues, as it relies on individual interpretation of confidentiality. Intellectual property attorney Evan Brown has pointed out that such requests can expose AI labs to significant risks.
