OpenAI has begun testing an innovative feature that allows multiple users to communicate with each other and with ChatGPT, using the newly launched GPT-5.1 model. This feature mimics discussion groups in classic communication applications but also includes the chatbot's intervention. ChatGPT can follow conversations and decide when to intervene, having the ability to react to messages with emojis to express appreciation. Users can manually invoke the chatbot by mentioning @ChatGPT. OpenAI emphasizes that usage limits are calculated based on the responses given by the chatbot. The feature is promoted as a way to collaborate, allowing up to 20 users to work on common topics. Initial tests are being conducted in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and New Zealand.
