Nvidia is set to unveil a new platform at next month's GTC developer conference in San Jose, which will include a chip developed by the startup Groq. OpenAI has expressed concerns about the speed of Nvidia's chips for certain applications, such as software development, and the new hardware could meet about 10% of the company's inferential computing needs.
Although OpenAI has had discussions with Cerebras and Groq for faster chips, Nvidia intervened, blocking negotiations and concluding a $20 billion licensing agreement with Groq. Additionally, Nvidia announced an investment of up to $100 billion in OpenAI, thereby obtaining a stake in the company and access to advanced chips.
