To cope with the medical challenges of space missions to the Moon and Mars, where communication with Earth can be limited and resupply and evacuation difficult, NASA has developed a digital medical assistant. It, called the Crew Medical Officer Digital Assistant (CMO-DA), is one of the agency's first steps towards 'Earth-independent' medical care. The project was developed in collaboration with Google, and the assistant can assess symptoms and administer treatments when there is no access to a doctor or Earth communications.
