From now on, users can upload a photo and ask "Is this generated by AI?" to find out if it was created or edited with the help of Google's AI systems. Currently, this feature is only available for images, but Google has announced that it will expand support for video and audio verification soon. A significant upgrade is expected, as Google intends to integrate the C2PA standard for content credentials, which will allow the identification of AI-generated content from a broader ecosystem of tools. Google has also confirmed that its new Nano Banana Pro model will incorporate C2PA metadata in every generated image. This is the second major improvement to the C2PA standard this week, after TikTok decided to adopt C2PA metadata for its invisible watermarking system.

Although manual verification in Gemini is a step forward, the real impact will occur when social platforms begin to automatically detect and label AI-generated content, without relying on users to verify each image.
