Bill Gates, through Breakthrough Energy, has awarded a $40m grant to startup Deep Sky, which will test carbon removal technologies.

The grant has been awarded to accelerate the development of technology to capture carbon dioxide directly from the air. Startup Deep Sky will create a DAC proving ground in Canada, providing space for eight companies. It will test how DAC works in the cold climate of Canada, a country with significant oil production.
