Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked Elon Musk on Wednesday to restore Starlink network services in Ukraine, in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan. Several excerpts from the discussion were published online, according to AFP, cited by Agerpres.
Zelenskyy warned that if the attacks continue and the Starlink connection is not restored, “people will die.” He told Musk that he hoped the service disruption was the result of an error or a major technical problem and called for the situation to be remedied.
The Ukrainian president described the service shutdown as “a major mistake,” given that Starlink is used for battlefield communications in Ukraine. The satellite network owned by Elon Musk has become an important tool for maintaining communications links during the war.
The request comes amid continuing attacks and the dependence of Ukraine’s military and civilian infrastructure on access to stable communications. In the published excerpts, Zelenskyy did not specify when the service might be restored or what the exact cause of the disruption was.
