Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the issue of the division of disputed territories between Ukraine and Russia is the most difficult to resolve in negotiations with U.S. representatives for a peace plan. At a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky emphasized that recent discussions in Miami focused on this issue, and the initial plan proposed by the U.S., which included the cession of some territories in Donbas, is unacceptable for Kyiv.
Additionally, Zelensky mentioned that other important topics, such as security guarantees for Ukraine and funding for post-war reconstruction, require direct discussions with American President Donald Trump. He called for a fair solution that would also include Europeans in the reconstruction process, considering proposals to use frozen Russian assets.
President Macron added that a finalized peace plan must involve Ukraine and Europeans at the negotiating table, emphasizing that discussions are still in a preliminary phase. During the meeting in Paris, Zelensky and Macron consulted with European leaders to address these complex issues. The initial version of the U.S. plan was criticized by Ukraine and its European supporters, who proposed significant modifications, including demands for a ceasefire and compensation from Russia.
