Ukraine and Syria have committed to intensify cooperation in the field of security during discussions on Sunday, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a meeting in Damascus on Sunday with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa, focused on regional security and the war with Russia. Zelensky stated that they discussed the situation in the region and prospects for improvement, as well as the circumstances of Russia's war against Ukraine.

He emphasized the interest in exchanging experiences in the military and security fields, including food security and Ukraine's role as a food supplier. Zelensky arrived in Damascus together with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, coming from a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where they discussed efforts to end the war with Russia. The war in the Middle East has affected negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, and Ukraine fears that a prolonged conflict will reduce military equipment supplies from allies. Although Russia's influence in the Middle East has been affected by political changes, relations between Russia and Syria remain cordial, and the new Syrian government has not requested the withdrawal of Russian troops.
