Yann LeCun, one of the founding fathers of modern artificial intelligence, announced that he is leaving Meta to establish his own artificial intelligence company.

Yann LeCun, who has worked at Meta since 2013 and led the Fundamental Research lab in AI, stated that his new company will continue to collaborate with Meta, focusing on Advanced Machine Intelligence research. His departure comes in the context of a restructuring of Meta's AI department, which recently launched the Llama model but received disappointing feedback. LeCun aims to develop AI technologies that better understand the physical world and have advanced reasoning and planning capabilities. He believes that models integrating these aspects are essential for achieving general artificial intelligence comparable to human intelligence. Along with other experts, LeCun has contributed to the popularization of deep learning, but he is now moving away from the direction adopted by Meta and Silicon Valley, emphasizing the need for new architectures to advance in the field of AI.
