The two leaders agreed to collaborate more closely on global issues ahead of the G7 summit in France. Macron, who had an active day in Chengdu, appreciated Xi's gesture of deviating from the official protocol, highlighting mutual trust.

Previous discussions included topics such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, where Macron urged China to exert pressure on Moscow for a ceasefire. Following the meeting, 12 cooperation agreements were signed, including a new agreement for French alfalfa exports to China and progress in trade of pork products. These initiatives reflect the desire of both nations to strengthen economic and diplomatic relations in an increasingly tense international context.
