A 470 kg bomb, dating from World War II, was discovered on Sunday at a construction site in central Belgrade, according to information provided by the police. Before starting the defusing operation, authorities checked the area to ensure the safety of residents, who were asked to move their vehicles and leave nearby homes.
The bomb, of the AN-M44 type, manufactured in the USA, was used in air raids against German positions in 1944, during the liberation of Belgrade. After its discovery, the bomb was transported to a military range located 180 km from the city, where it will be destroyed in the coming days. In recent years, Serbia has also discovered unexploded bombs from previous conflicts, all of which have been defused without incidents.
