Italy won the right to host in 2019, against Sweden, and the Fondazione Milano-Cortina 2026 was established to coordinate the events.

The Olympic medals are made from recycled materials, and 1,146 medals will be awarded in the 195 events. Three countries, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, and the United Arab Emirates, will debut at these Games. Romania will be represented by 29 athletes in nine disciplines, having seven flag bearers. The closing ceremony will take place on February 22 at the Verona Arena.
