National Guardsmen mobilized by Trump will soon be bearing arms as part of a crime-reduction mission in Washington.

At the order of the secretary of defense, the Washington National Guard will begin deploying service weapons to support law and order efforts in the capital. President Donald Trump has announced the mobilization of the National Guard, describing the city as "overrun by violent gangs." Although statistics show a drop in crime, Trump says the operation to restore order will continue for some time.
