At the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi, China's foreign minister, stated that "the door to dialogue is wide open" regarding the conflict in Ukraine, urging the parties to reach a lasting peace agreement. He emphasized that Europe should engage directly in negotiations, avoiding its marginalization.

Wang asserted that Beijing supports a political solution and desires an end to hostilities. He also addressed global conflicts, including the situation in Gaza and Iran, highlighting the need to respect international law. Wang warned of "increasing turbulence" and advocated for true multilateralism, criticizing the monopolization of power by certain countries. Regarding relations with the US and the EU, he stressed the importance of cooperation and rejected the idea that China should be a systemic rival to Europe. Wang presented two scenarios for the future: cooperation or aggressive decoupling from China.
