The strike comes amid tensions between Volkswagen and its employees, who oppose the company's plans to cut wages by 10%, mass layoffs and possible plant closures. The union has proposed €1.5bn in cost-saving measures, but these have been rejected by the company. Negotiations are due to continue on December 9.
