Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, had a phone conversation with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, in which topics such as the situation in Ukraine and the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, especially around Iran, were discussed.
The Kremlin mentioned that Putin appreciated Budapest's position in favor of a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The discussion also included issues related to Hungarian citizens mobilized in the Ukrainian army and who have been taken prisoner.
In the context of sanctions, Hungary recently blocked a new package of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia and prevented the granting of a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, thus generating additional tensions within the EU.
