Venice reintroduced the entry fee of 10 euros for tourists visiting the city for a day on Friday, according to the DPA agency.

This fee will be applied for a period of 60 days, until the end of July. Visitors who make reservations at least three days in advance will pay only 5 euros, and those who stay overnight in the city are exempt from this fee but must pay the tourist tax for each night of accommodation. The scheme, which was initially introduced for a testing period, is now entering its third year and has been extended after being applied for only 29 days in the first summer season of 2024. Last year, Venice recorded over 720,000 day visitors, generating approximately 5.4 million euros for the city.

Currently, about 50,000 people live in the historic center of Venice, a number smaller than the available hotel beds.
