Venezuela announced on Tuesday the release of some American citizens who were imprisoned, according to an American official, who welcomed this decision of the interim leadership following the ousting of Nicolas Maduro. Although the details of the release were not specified, the official mentioned that there are more prisoners. Maduro's vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, who has taken over as interim president, ordered this measure following the American attack. American President Donald Trump appreciated the gesture, announcing that he would cancel a second round of attacks on Venezuela.
Many of those imprisoned were arrested for participating in protests related to the 2024 elections, in which Maduro was declared the winner despite allegations of fraud. Additionally, Venezuela had previously released Spanish and Italian citizens. Furthermore, Venezuelans regained access to the social network X, which had been blocked by Maduro, and Rodriguez updated her profile, promoting unity and economic stability. Maduro, captured by American forces, faces drug trafficking charges.
