Venezuela and the United States have announced a long-term energy partnership, agreed upon between Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, and the American Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright. This meeting took place at the Miraflores Palace, marking the first visit of a high-ranking White House official to Caracas after a period of diplomatic tensions. Rodriguez emphasized the commitment to overcome the divergences between the two countries and mentioned that projects in the fields of oil, gas, and electricity were discussed.
Wright stated that the Trump administration supports investments in Venezuela, while also acknowledging that sanctions have been a constraint on the economy. Both parties expressed optimism regarding the increase in energy production and the improvement of the quality of life for Venezuelans. This collaboration comes against the backdrop of the easing of restrictions imposed on American companies operating in the oil sector in Venezuela.
