Moldovan businessman Veaceslav Platon has been sentenced to 24 years in prison in Russia for fraud after embezzling 48 billion rubles.

Veaceslav Platon, owner of Moldindconbank, has been sentenced in absentia by a Moscow court to 24 years in prison for misappropriating 48 billion rubles. This is in addition to another 20-year sentence received in 2023 for similar offenses. Platon set up a criminal group in 2013 to illegally withdraw funds from Russia. He was wanted internationally and arrested in the UK but was recently released on bail.
