The US State Department has announced that US envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to the Middle East to negotiate a humanitarian corridor agreed by the parties to the conflict. In the Gaza Strip, shortages of food and essential goods are severely affecting its 2.4 million inhabitants, with one hospital reporting 21 children dead from malnutrition. Israel is stepping up attacks against Hamas and the death toll has risen dramatically, with more than 59,000 dead, mostly civilians.
