The US National Guard has started carrying guns in Washington D.C., mobilized to fight crime, according to a request from President Donald Trump. Although violent crime fell in the capital between 2023 and 2024, Trump has accused Mayor Muriel Bowser of falsifying statistics. The soldiers, mostly from Republican states, are authorized to use force only in case of imminent threat. Along with them, federal agents from various agencies are also mobilized.
