Kaja Kallas, the head of the European Union's foreign policy, stated on Wednesday that the new tensions between the US and Iran complicate the already difficult discussions to end the war.
She emphasized that Iran's attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait are unacceptable, mentioning on the social media platform X that these actions affect Iran's commitments to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Kallas called for ensuring freedom of navigation in this strategic area, threatened by recent attacks on commercial vessels.
Next Monday, EU foreign ministers will meet with their Gulf counterparts to discuss collaboration in support of the implementation of the agreement and maintaining freedom of navigation. In this context, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced attacks on 85 American military targets, and the US military responded with strikes on over 80 Iranian targets, following the attacks on commercial vessels.
These events come after a memorandum of understanding signed on June 17, aimed at ending the military conflict between the two countries.
