The decision was communicated to employees in a message highlighting the high risks associated with WhatsApp, including the lack of transparency in data protection and the absence of encryption for stored data. Employees cannot download or use the app on either mobile or the web, with alternatives such as Microsoft Teams, Signal and iMessage recommended. Meta disputed the allegations, saying WhatsApp messages are fully encrypted. It joins other banned apps such as TikTok.
