The US Embassy has confirmed Romania's removal from the Visa Waiver Program, citing concerns about illegal migration affecting the health and education systems. Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over the decision, stressing that Romania met the legal criteria to participate in the program. The US Department of Homeland Security also announced that the review of Romania's status has led to the suspension of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for Romanian citizens. Romania could be reconsidered for the program in the future if it meets the necessary requirements.
