An unusual incident occurred in the air traffic in the USA when two American Airlines planes, both having the flight number 'AA 2482', were simultaneously in the same airspace.
The air traffic controller, with 25 years of experience, stated that he had never encountered such a situation. The flight from Chicago to Phoenix took off late, while the flight from Phoenix to Chicago departed on time, which led to their overlap. The aircraft, both Boeing 737-800, were approximately 4.8 kilometers apart horizontally and 610 meters vertically, adhering to safety limits.
The controller effectively communicated with the pilots, distinguishing between the two flights and ensuring that both aircraft passed safely alongside each other, continuing their journey without incidents.
