The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the explosion of the maritime drone in the Port of Constanța is a "direct consequence of the war waged by Russia against Ukraine." The statement was made on platform X, in the context of the incident occurring a week after the crash of a drone into a residential building in Galați.
Von der Leyen emphasized that these events represent an increasing threat to the countries at the eastern border of the European Union. She reaffirmed the Union's solidarity with the member states exposed to these risks and mentioned that Europe is significantly investing in anti-drone capabilities, air defense, and early warning systems. Her message was clear: Europe's response must be proportional to the urgency of the situation, in order to build a stronger Romania and a stronger Europe.
