The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has called for the release of imprisoned Iranian protesters, condemning the violent repression of demonstrations in Iran.

She firmly condemned the violent repression of these legitimate protests, which began in December last year due to economic difficulties, but transformed into open opposition against the clerical leadership. The protests have led to at least 65 deaths and 2,311 arrests, according to the Iranian Human Rights Activists group. Additionally, the French president, the German chancellor, and the British prime minister have urged Iranian authorities to refrain from violence.
