Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, emphasized at a meeting of EU ambassadors the importance of reviewing the bloc's foreign policy in the current geopolitical context. She questioned the effectiveness of relying on the consensus of all 27 member states, noting that this can become an obstacle to making quick decisions. Speaking about recent challenges, such as the war in Ukraine, von der Leyen highlighted the difficulties encountered in securing a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, even after the agreement of European leaders.

She also addressed the crisis in the Middle East, stating that it is a symptom of broader issues, not a triggering factor. Von der Leyen called for a change in the EU's approach, emphasizing that Europe must adapt to new geopolitical realities. During a videoconference with leaders from the Middle East, the strengthening of maritime traffic protection missions was discussed, highlighting the EU's commitment to supporting regions affected by conflicts.
