On the night from Monday to Tuesday, the Ukrainian army announced that its drones attacked eight oil tankers from the so-called 'phantom fleet' of Russia, used for transporting fuel to the Crimean Peninsula. These ships, each having a displacement of approximately 7,000 tons, are under international sanctions.
The Ukrainian army published images of the tankers in flames, emphasizing that attacks on Russian naval logistics complicate the delivery of fuel and ammunition necessary to support Russian military activities in Crimea. A day earlier, Ukraine struck two other tankers from the same fleet, continuing operations aimed at isolating Crimea. Attacks on energy infrastructure in Crimea have led to a fuel shortage, prompting Russian authorities to declare a state of emergency.
Ukraine has also targeted other vessels, including a ferry and a cargo ship, in an attempt to reduce Moscow's revenue from oil sales. Ukrainian authorities are urging allies to take action against tankers that evade international sanctions.
