Marco Rubio meets with Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday in New York

Ukraine proposed to Russia a truce concerning energy infrastructure, following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's meeting with Donald Trump in New York, on the 1,673rd day of the war. Kyiv would halt attacks on Russian refineries and other energy facilities if Moscow ceases strikes against Ukraine's power, water, and heating networks. The United States is expected to convey the proposal to Russia, but for now there is no agreement.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the war will not end through a categorical military victory, but through a negotiated settlement. Marco Rubio will meet on Wednesday morning (local time) with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in New York, where the UN General Assembly is taking place, the State Department announced Tuesday evening, Reuters reports.

The meeting takes place after Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke on Tuesday with U.S. President Donald Trump at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
