The Ukrainian army struck, on the night of June 21, fuel transit terminals and port infrastructure on both sides of the Kerch Strait, according to Telegram channels citing local reports.
The Kerch Strait, a vital logistical corridor for Russia, connects the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov. The attacks specifically targeted military infrastructure and Russian oil facilities, with fires reported at a terminal in Kerch and at the Kavkaz port in Russia. Although the extent of the damage is unclear, the attacks align with a broader Ukrainian campaign to target Crimea, using drones to strike Russian positions. These actions come amid a fuel shortage in Crimea, caused by Ukrainian attacks, and Russian authorities have begun to implement restrictions on fuel sales. The Ukrainian Defense Minister stated that these attacks are turning Crimea into an "island," attempting to isolate the peninsula from the rest of Russia.
