A major security breach has affected the identities of more than 100 British officials, including from special forces and MI6, exposing collaborating Afghan nationals to the risk of Taliban reprisals. The information was inadvertently leaked, affecting the data of nearly 19,000 Afghans who had applied to relocate to the U.K. The British government recognized the seriousness of the situation, and the breach was not discovered until a year later, in 2023, when the data was posted on social media. The MoD has initiated a secret relocation program for those affected, but the risks remain significant.
