Hakan Fidan, the Turkish Foreign Minister, announced on Saturday that discussions are underway regarding the management of a possible withdrawal of the United States from the European security architecture.

Fidan warned that such a withdrawal, even partial, could have devastating consequences for Europe, especially if it is not coordinated. His comments come against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to withdraw the United States from NATO, following the refusal of some European states to send ships to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

Fidan criticized the member states of the European Union for their independent actions that contradict NATO's position, suggesting that they might want to operate as a "separate club":

"Do you want to be a separate organization of the European Union within NATO? Well, America says: ‘We’ll let you go alone, we’ll cut the ties’", said Turkish Minister Hakan Fidan.

He emphasized the importance of the NATO summit scheduled for July in Ankara as an opportunity to restore relations with the Trump administration and to prepare for a possible reduction of American involvement in European security.
