The Turkish government has proposed new taxes that would bring in an additional $7 billion in revenue to cover the budget shortfall caused by the 2023 earthquakes.

The tax proposals mainly target companies and are an attempt to cover the budget deficit caused by lavish spending and the 2023 earthquakes. The plan represents the biggest tax reform in a generation and is part of an economic policy shift overseen by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek.
