Turkish police took control of the headquarters of Halk TV, Turkey’s main opposition television station, on Wednesday morning and interrupted the channel’s live broadcast. The television station’s management announced that the authorities had appointed an administrator to take control of the institution.

Halk TV reported on the X network that several police officers had entered the building. Subsequently, the station’s management stated that the headquarters had been searched and that employees were denied access to the premises.

“Police are inside the Halk TV building. An administrator has been appointed to take control of the channel. The live broadcast has been interrupted,” the station reported.

The television station’s general news director, Suat Toktaș, later announced that the search had ended, without providing details about the reason for the measure or any possible charges. Turkish authorities had not provided any additional information by the time of reporting.
