The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israel's recognition of Somaliland, considering it an illegitimate and unacceptable decision. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity and integrity of Somalia, in the context where the Netanyahu government is accused of destabilizing the Horn of Africa region. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is on a visit to Turkey shortly after the recognition of Somaliland, which unilaterally declared independence in 1991. Although Somaliland operates autonomously, it is not recognized by other countries, except for Israel, which stated that its recognition represents an opportunity to expand the partnership.

Analysts suggest that Israel is seeking to counter Iran's influence in the Red Sea, and Houthi rebels have warned that the Israeli presence in Somaliland will be considered a military target. Both Somalia and the Palestinian National Authority have expressed concerns regarding the possible displacement of Palestinians following this recognition.
