The bill recently signed by Trump will transform Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) into a large-scale security agency with an estimated budget of 75 billion dollars. It will allow for the construction of new detention centers and the hiring of thousands of agents, leading to an annual deportation rate of 1 million. Civil organizations warn of the risks of human rights violations, given that 11 migrants have died in ICE custody this fiscal year. Critics say this expansion of ICE reflects authoritarian tendencies and that funds should be directed towards positive reforms in the immigration system.
