Donald Trump declared that he had discussions with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, regarding a trade agreement, asking her to allow time until the 250th anniversary of the United States, on July 4, for its ratification. If no agreement is reached, Trump warned that tariffs would increase significantly. Von der Leyen mentioned that the community bloc has made "good progress" towards ratifying the agreement, which sets tariffs of 15% on most European products. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of implementation, in the context where the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it had overstepped its authority in imposing tariffs. Although the agreement awaits approval from EU member states, Trump threatened with a 25% tax on European cars, accusing the community bloc of violating the agreement. Cyprus, which holds the rotating presidency of the EU Council, expressed a desire to maintain a "positive momentum" in future discussions.
