Donald Trump stated that the special relationship between the USA and the United Kingdom is in a "sad" state and threatened to revise the trade agreement, in the context of the UK's refusal to join the war in Iran. In an interview, Trump criticized British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for the "tragic mistake" of shutting down oil extraction in the North Sea and described the UK's immigration policies as "insane." He also emphasized that, although he likes Starmer, the relationship between the two countries was better in the past. Trump warned that he could offer the UK less favorable trade conditions, given that the current agreement was signed by Starmer to protect the UK from tariffs imposed by Trump.

Despite the criticisms, Trump stated that he likes the United Kingdom and wishes it success. This dispute arises a few days before the royal visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla to the USA, which will mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
