The proposal follows a move by El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele to lock up dozens of deported Venezuelan immigrants in a notorious prison in El Salvador. Trump hasn't offered specific plans to do so, nor has he clarified whether he's referring only to naturalized citizens who weren't born in the US. Immigration law expert David J. Bier emphasized that U.S. citizens cannot be deported to foreign prisons, and that Trump's proposal is an unconstitutional assault on human rights.
