Trump has announced that he will send letters to 12 countries outlining tariffs on goods exported to the US, with deadlines set. While he initially announced a base tariff rate of 10%, some tariffs could go as high as 70%. His strategy has evolved because of difficulties in negotiating trade deals, and the only agreements so far are with the UK and Vietnam. The EU diplomat cited the lack of progress in negotiations with the Trump administration.
