In a statement on Wednesday, Donald Trump proposed 100 percent tariffs on all chips and semiconductors imported into the United States, except for companies engaged in local manufacturing. Trump emphasized that if a company does not meet production commitments, it will be subject to tariffs. He also noted that in 2022, Congress approved a $52.7 billion subsidy program to boost semiconductor production in the US.
