The administration of President Donald Trump has announced the initiative "Maritime Freedom Construct" (MFC) to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor for global oil and gas exports. According to a telegram from the State Department dated April 28, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved this initiative, which represents a first step in creating a post-conflict maritime security architecture in the Middle East. MFC will function as a diplomatic hub between partner countries and the shipping industry, while the Pentagon will coordinate maritime traffic in real-time. U.S. embassies are instructed to communicate this initiative to partner states, excluding Russia, China, and other U.S. adversaries. Participation may include diplomacy, information sharing, and naval presence. This initiative comes in the context of reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, affected by U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, which has led to the blockage of this vital shipping route.
