Donald Trump stated that Iran has committed not to develop nuclear weapons, an essential element in the discussions between the United States and Tehran to end the current conflict.

While negotiations seemed to be progressing, the New York Times reported on Saturday that the U.S. president has tightened the proposal and sent Tehran a revised version of the text. Trump would like a firmer position from Washington on several issues he considers important, including the fate of Iranian nuclear materials.

In an interview, Trump mentioned that he received assurances from Tehran that they would not acquire nuclear weapons.

"The only guarantee I need is that there will be no nuclear weapons. They agreed to that, and that was very interesting,” Donald Trump said.

"I’m not rushing,” the U.S. president stated. "Slowly but surely, I believe we will get what we want. And if we don’t get what we want, things will evolve differently,” he added.

Additionally, the U.S. Secretary of Defense stated that the U.S. is prepared to take military action if the discussions fail. The nuclear issue remains a major point of contention, and Iran has insisted on addressing this matter after signing a memorandum of understanding.

The war has had a devastating impact on the global economy and has led to rising oil prices.
