In an interview, Donald Trump said European Union leaders had asked him to contact Vladimir Putin because he was not responding. The comments come after his 100-day deadline to negotiate a deal between Russia and Ukraine expired without results. Trump claims the war would not have happened under his leadership and that a peace deal is possible. Although he says the Europeans have failed to contact Putin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has spoken with him and other European leaders have had direct meetings.
