Trump spoke about Vladimir Putin regarding the end of the war in Ukraine. The announcement was made in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with whom Trump met in Ankara, on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
Trump mentioned that he frequently discusses with Putin and that the Russian leader wants to put an end to the conflict. During the meeting with Zelensky, the American president caused confusion among journalists by asking if they had questions for Putin, but he quickly clarified his remark.
Trump stated that Putin wants to end the war as soon as possible. The last phone conversation between the two leaders took place on July 4, when the American president offered to mediate the end of the conflict.
When asked about the possibility of imposing additional sanctions against Russia, Trump avoided a clear answer but specified that there is pressure on Putin.
For his part, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he does not know the conditions that Vladimir Putin would impose for peace to be achieved, but he argued that these conditions change as the Ukrainian army strengthens its position.
